For the longest time, I was thinking "this house can not store any more doggie toys" every time an ad for the Bark Box came up on my facebook feed. One day, I finally thought, "why not? The fur babies LOVE new toys!". And I would be honest. I was feeling a little guilty for not jumping on the doggie parent newest trend of subscribing to these dog toy delivery services and having them miss out on all the excitement... So I took the plunge and signed up on the Bark Box subscription service.
Before I even signed up for the service, I did a lot of research. Specifically, I was very concerned about the quality and safety of the treats Bark Box send the customers. The last thing I want is having the pooches get sick from poor quality pet treats or even worse. I was very pleased to learn that BarkBox treats meet the highest standard and all sourced from either U.S. or Canada. With that assurance, I went ahead and signed up for my first box!
When the first box arrived, the doggies knew right away it was for them! How? I can only guess that it is the aroma of the treats coming from inside the box. Both the treats and the toys were BIG hit! Below are my feedback of the various component of BarkBox broken down into categories.
TOYS:
Now, what really caught my attention is that every box is curated for that month’s theme. So your dog gets to have toys that are not available in just any pet store or online. That month’s theme was Chinese New Year. Among the toys that were in the box, the biggest hit, (and it's still the biggest hit of all the toys 'til today) is a plush takeout box toy stuffed with squeaky plush dumplings with smiles on them! How fun is that? The doggies have so much fun sticking their noses inside of the plush takeout box to take out the dumplings! The size of the toys were what really mattered to me also. As I mostly specialize in care of small dogs and toy breeds, having toys small enough for them was important to me. All too often, I have chosen dog toys that are too bulky and big for the small dogs in the past. BarkBox allows you to let them know the size of toys you prefer when you sign up from Small, Medium, or Large, so you don't have to worry about if the toys would be too small or too big for your dog. All and all, five thumps up for the toy for its creativity, appropriate size, and huge appeal to the dogs. Oh, and if you want to re-order particular dog toy you received, for let's say, to give to one of your paw parents friend, you can log on to their "BarkStore" and order that toy!
TREAT
With default setting, you get 2 bags of treat in your box. Treat is very generous in amount in each bag and as I mentioned, meets the highest standard and sourced in U.S. or Canada. The doggies loved it and I had plenty to go around. Nobody got upset stomach either:) It also comes in such a creatively designed bag.
PRICE
It was $22/box to subscribe to the service. Considering the price for the treat and toys plus the time I would be spending to drive to the store, park, shop, then drive back, this is well worth it. Plus, the toys and the treats are so creative and unique that you don't find them in just regular pet stores!
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Customer service is one of the best I've experienced. They are warm, polite, and really do talk your "language" of passionate dog parents!
OVERALL
Overall, I can not love BarkBox more. In my opinion, it is not just a over hyped fleeting trend, but really worth your money with real substance and it is just priceless to see your dog's excitement every time they receive their box!
PAW TIP: If you only have one or two dogs, receiving 2 full size bags of treat each moth can quickly turn into a stack of dog treat you don't know what to do with if you are a responsible paw parent who don't overfeed the treats to your dogs. I've come up with a solution to go around this problem by selecting the option of getting extra toys in exchange for treat for some months until I am running low in treats again.
